Radar Matched Filtering using the Fractional Fourier Transform

چکیده
A matched filter is the optimal linear filter for maximizing the signal to noise ratio (SNR) in the presence of additive noise. Matched filters are commonly used in radar systems where the transmitted signal is known and may be used as a replica to be correlated with the received signal which can be carried out by multiplication in the frequency domain by applying Fourier Transform (FT). Fractional Fourier transform (FrFT) is the general case for the FT and is superior in chirp pulse compression using the optimum FrFT order. In this paper a matched filter is implemented for a chirp radar signal in the optimum FrFT domain. Mathematical formula for a received chirp signal in the frequency domain and a generalized formula in the fractional Fourier domain are presented in this paper using the Principle of Stationary Phase (PSP). These mathematical expressions are used to show the limitations of the matched filter in the fractional Fourier domain. The parameters that affect the chirp signal in the optimum fractional Fourier domain are described. The performance enhancement by using the matched filter in the fractional Fourier domain for special cases is presented.

Detection and Parameter Estimation of Polyphase Codes Radar Signal Based on Fractional Autocorrelation
Polyphase codes radar signals (Frank, P1, P2, P3and P4 codes) derived from linear frequency modulated (LFM) waveforms have been widely used in low probability of intercept (LPI) radar. To solve the problem of higher computational complexity in detection and parameter estimation of the polyphase codes radar signals, a fractional autocorrelation based algorithm is proposed. The paper proved that ...
متن کاملApplication of Fractional Fourier Transform to Moving Target Indication via Along-Track Interferometry
A relatively unknown yet powerful technique, the so-called fractional Fourier transform (FrFT), is applied to SAR along-track interferometry (SAR-ATI) in order to estimate moving target parameters. By mapping a target’s signal onto a fractional Fourier axis, the FrFT permits a constant-velocity target to be focused in the fractional Fourier domain thereby affording orders of magnitude improveme...

In this paper, we report the efficiency of Fourier Bessel transform and time-frequency based method in conjunction with the fractional Fourier transform, for extracting micro-Doppler radar signatures from the rotating targets. This approach comprises mainly of two processes; the first being decomposition of the radar return, in order to extract micro-Doppler (m-D) features and the second being,...
متن کاملApplication of the Fractional Fourier Transform and S-Method in Doppler Radar Tomography
Doppler radar tomography is a technique which uses only the Doppler profiles of a rotating target as projections in two-dimensional radar tomography to obtain an image of the target. The work demonstrates, for the first time, the application of the fractional Fourier transform and the S-Method in improving the image resolution. The performance is shown to be significantly better than that avail...

The Fractional Fourier Transform (FRFT) is a generalization of the classical Fourier transform and has many applications in several areas including signal processing, optics and quantum mechanics. This paper presents a low pass filter, designed by using convolution theorem for FRFT. In the design of filter, Blackman window function is used and it has been observed that proposed FRFT domain filt...
